Silver is a naturally occurring element which neutralizes odor-causing bacteria on contact. This is a natural ability of the element itself and not something caused by a man-made process. The advantage with silver is that it doesn’t cause harm to human tissue cells.

Choosing silver.

Before SHUTOUT® products were created; our chemists and scientists analyzed numerous ingredients from around the globe. The plan was to only move forward in designing the product line if a key ingredient could be decided on first. The company rigorously tested ingredients and gradually eliminated the options which didn’t meet the company’s high expectations. In the end, silver emerged as the only option with the highest possible ratings in safety, effectiveness and longevity.

Perfecting our Silver

After choosing silver, the company moved forward in developing techniques for making the key ingredient even more effective. After more then a decade of testing, a process was invented which enables certain particles to be fast-acting and others long-lasting. This new technology gives SHUTOUT scientists the ability to work with a targeted number of particles specific in shape and size, depending on the product. Achieving the correct shape is the secret to keeping the particles suspended in any liquid without settling; this gives SHUTOUT® the ability to ‘Sync’ silver with all types of natural ingredients. Creating different sized particles achieves an effective balance of fast-acting results and long-lasting protection:

Smaller particles provide instant and fast-acting results. They fully cover an area and go to work immediately upon contact. Smaller particles become infused onto threads and surfaces and are designed to quickly begin neutralizing odors, even in tiny spaces including tightly woven high-tech fabrics and dense foams.

Larger particles produce a time-released neutralizing effect which means they stay infused on items for longer-lasting protection.

Many cultures have historically used silver for medical purposes. The silver has often been ground into a powder and added to water or jelly then applied to a surface or to the body. The silver powder would often be ground finer (or less fine) to achieve the desired result. Silver has been used by many civilizations throughout human history. It has proven to be a versatile element in many ways; here are some of the recorded historic uses.

• Ancient Greeks and Romans used silver barrels to keep water fresh and to preserve food.
• Ancient Egyptian records wrote about using silver for its medicinal purposes.
• Chinese emperors historically ate with silver chopsticks for good health.
• American settlers placed silver coins in their canteens to keep water clean and free of impurities.

Modern Uses-

• With growing worries about medicinal resistant viruses in surgical rooms, many doctors now use silver-coated surgical tools.
• After testing 23 methods of purifying water, NASA has chosen to use a silver-based purifying system to clean the water for the Space Shuttle Program. By using a very micro-level amount of silver as a hygienic filter for drinking-water in the shuttle, NASA has eliminated the need for chlorine, which was formerly used for purification.
• Russian scientists, working on water recycling and purification problems for the Soviet space program decided on silver as the best long-term sanitizing agent.
• Doctors today drop silver solutions into the eyes of new-born babies to prevent blindness due to infection.
• To prevent the spread of infection, silver particles are used in many health-care products including, wound dressing and nurse uniforms.

Allergies to silver usually due to impurities-

In rare case where someone has an allergic reaction to silver (often jewelry), it is usually not to the silver itself, but to the impurities in the silver (i.e. cheap metal fillers like copper or nickel). Silver and Penicillin-

With the invention of low-cost chemical disinfectants and penicillin in 1928, silver’s use in medicine became less popular. At the time, no technology had been developed for utilizing silver in those applications and bacteria could be controlled in a cost effective way by these new “wonder drugs” so their popularity sky-rocketed. Today, many types of pathogens have developed immunity to antibiotics creating things like super-bugs (aka.
